The Los Angeles-based riot grrrl/punk band Sour Tongue fuse hardcore punk, country, grunge and disco, utilising humour and a degree of sonic absurdity to convey a deeper message of angst and desperation.

Formed in 2020 by Satori Marill and John Murphy, they have issued several singles collected together on two EPs, the most recent being Final Girl (July 2025). A story in four songs/parts, it is about the intersection of grief, betrayal and heartbreak, but loving throughout. It’s dark, angry, funny and heartbreaking, like a horror comedy.

A video for song/part 3, ‘Me-Mania’, has been issued to coincide with the announcement of a Sour Tongue live date at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles on 20th June. It sees them open a Summer School show that also features Honey Revenge, South Arcade, Winona Fighter and more.

Final Girl also includes the bright and breezy single ‘I Thought You Liked Me!’, which was written about an experience felt by most girls. “It’s about being manipulated and lied to, getting fed up and reversing the roles,” states vocalist Marill. “I think anyone who has ever had their heart broken and done something stupid in return can relate to it.”

In a second glimpse of the forthcoming album Headwater (out 26th June), Room40’s Helen Svoboda now shares the sparse and mystical ‘Void of Space’. The song begins with a stark vocal, before close harmonies and pizzicato strings lurch the song into something more quizzical, full of wonder and uncertainty.

The distinctive sonic world of Headwater weaves sixteen threads or ‘earworms’ built around two double basses, two voices, and electronics; heard as singular and combinatory bodies of material. The album forms an abstracted picture of self, rooted in a devolved song form. It can be experienced as a tapestry that blurs the edges of identity; strange, beautiful, evaporative, and fluid, like memory itself.

About the track, Helen says, “’Void of Space’ exists in the in-between, in a daydream, where thoughts evaporate into one another. The lyrics paint this picture, where a stream of thought "climbs up a cloud, but falls through", in a never-ending abstract void of space.”

Filmmaker Angus Kirby adds, “This video is a trip from the vaguely familiar to the unknown. Besides a literal interpretation of the title, ‘Void of Space’ has a celestial quality in its silences and sense of scale. To listen to it is it float through an eerie vacuum. I figured the video should reflect that with experiments with light and empty locations we’re used to seeing populated. Gradually we become untethered until we find ourselves in the titular void."”

Swedish extreme metal project Since The Death have unveiled a brand new video for ‘The Blackest of Days’, taken from their upcoming album Entangled, due out on April 24 via Nordic Mission.

AA

Founded in 2016 in Linköping by multi-instrumentalist Oscar Rask, Since The Death has operated as a singular studio vision, blending the ferocity of death, thrash, and black metal into a sound that is both razor-sharp and overwhelming.

With Entangled, the project reaches a new level of intensity and precision, pushing its fusion of extreme genres into darker, more intricate territory. ‘The Blackest of Days’ offers another glimpse into this evolution, relentless, aggressive, and tightly controlled, while still carrying a strong sense of atmosphere and tension.

The upcoming release also marks a new chapter for Since The Death, as the project prepares to step out of the studio and onto the stage for the first time, with a full live lineup and a confirmed appearance at Light The Dark.

The original Look, Stranger!, who hailed from York called it a day in 2012, followed by silence…

The emergence of a new act called Look, Stranger! is not a continuation or a resurrection, but the debut release from a new act which sees Ian J Cole (who not so long ago departed Yorkshire to reside down south) pair up with Louisa Rose (who hails from York but also lives down south), with the name referencing the poem of the same title by WH Auden (also born in York)

‘The Last Thing’ is taken from the Broken EP out on Bandcamp via Sinners Music on 14th February.

The song brings hints of Depeche Mode but equally more vintage electronica, merged with some post-punk vibes, while the video offers dashes of James Bond and some retro-futuristic vibes. In all, it’s simple, but effective.

Legendary Swedish death metallers Centinex unleashed their ‘As You Die’ single, accompanied by a music video. Featuring two brand-new tracks, the single carves out a fresh path for the band, infusing death ‘n’ roll fury while retaining their signature raw, aggressive extremity. These songs provide a glimpse into their highly anticipated 2025 album, set for release via Black Lion Records.

States Centinex bassist Martin Schulman: “Times change and so do Centinex. Our ‘As You Die’ single in a way represents a new beginning for the band, not only by working with new business partners but also by exploring a somewhat new musical direction.

“As previously mentioned, we have always been about not setting boundaries or limiting ourselves, and these two new tracks might be the clearest example of that. Maybe we are getting old or something, dunno… Anyway, let’s fu**ing rock!”

Centinex originated in 1990 as a riff-oriented part of the classic Swedish death metal movement and disbanded in 2005 after releasing eight full-length albums. In 2014, they resurfaced, quite surprisingly, and with a refreshed line-up, delivered their celebrated come-back record, Redeeming Filth. The next album was inevitable and didn’t take another decade to assemble. Having released Doomsday Rituals in 2016, the band played a run of shows in Europe and North America, before encapsulating their sheer Swedish brutality on a new offering. Death In Pieces, the long-runner’s third reunion album, brims with a powerful dose of old-school, Stockholm-style death metal, pushing their signature heavy riffing to a new level of intensity. The Pestilence EP followed, representing a slight shift by incorporating old-school thrash influences and marking a new chapter in the band’s history.

Centinex embarked on a headlining European tour from May to July 2024. With their double-track single ‘As You Die’ released digitally on October 25 (and a physical release set for November 8), Centinex is gearing up to release their 12th full-length album in 2025 via Black Lion Records. Catch them live at Athens Extreme Festival on 15 December 2024.

HEAVY TEMPLE celebrate today’s release of their sophomore full-length Garden of Heathens with the launch of an official video single for the track ‘Extreme Indifference to Life’.

HEAVY TEMPLE comment: “This album is just as much a projection into the future of the band as it is a reflection of past personal experience”, singer and bass player High Priestess Nighthawk writes. “It’s about realizing my power, but I also hope that people hearing this will be able to find their own. We were able to create something truly beautiful out of a lot of strife, and ultimately what I took from the creation of Garden of Heathens is that nothing matters and everything matters. We’re all what we’ve been waiting for. We just need to believe it. I’ve been doing this for over a decade and it feels like I’m just getting started.”

Garden of Heathens is out today, on Friday, April 12, 2024 and streaming in full on all relevant platforms. Check the video clip for ‘Extreme Indifference to Life’ here:
