Welsh disco-punkers Stickman announce their debut album Cyanide Smile. Due to release this Autumn, the record shares the flamboyant fruits of their summer touring & studio sessions. 

Described as ‘disco punk with a touch of mid-life crisis’ their sound is unmistakable.  Essentially anthemic alt.punk, their craft effortlessly switches up genres, complete with soaring choruses and dynamic melodies.

Lead-off single ‘My Genome’ is the first offering from the eagerly anticipated record,  releasing alongside their geometric music video, shot in 6:4. Watch the vid here:

KEN mode has released ‘These Wires,’ the latest single from its upcoming album, VOID.

The sequel to last year’s acclaimed NULL album, VOID will be released September 22nd on Artoffact Records.

KEN mode frontman Jesse Matthewson gives this statement about the new song: "Why would anything feel right again? Do you get the sense that a lot of people have been fundamentally damaged by the pandemic? The psychological fallout of this event is going to be seen for years to come, and this is its anthem."

An 8-minute epic, building from an icy lament into a deluge of distress, "These Wires" is perhaps the song that best expresses VOID’s story of sorrow and dismay. Centered around a simple piano melody, courtesy of newest member Kathryn Kerr, and Matthewson’s fragile spoken words, the song erupts into thunderous rhythms, propelled by the machine-like interplay of bassist Skot Hamilton and Jesse’s brother Shane Matthewson on drums. Jesse’s pleas hit with all the directness of Henry Rollins (whose "KEN mode" acronym, described in his book, Get in the Van, provided the Matthewsons with the inspiration for their band’s name, almost 25 years ago) as he belts out the song’s crucial six-word phrase: "Why would anything feel right again?"

Released in September of last year, KEN mode’s eighth album, NULL, was inspired by the bleakest days of the COVID-19 pandemic and saw the band create some of the rawest, harshest material of its career. The album also marked the official debut of multi-instrumentalist Kerr, who helped install a new palette of No Wave and industrial-tinged sounds into the band’s trademark mix of metallic hardcore and noise rock.

Amongst other honors, NULL earned KEN mode the front cover of Decibel Magazine, wherein the music was described as "evocative, guttural, Howl-esque poetry laid over frantic, Godflesh-ian soundscapes." A review from Stereogum stated: "NULL is KEN mode at their peak as composers."

Arriving exactly one year after NULL, VOID is KEN mode’s ninth full-length album. More than merely the follow-up to NULL, VOID is a companion to that album, inspired by the same events, and written and recorded within the same time frame. Where NULL embodied the chaos and shock of the early days of the pandemic, VOID is the sound of disappointment and sadness that followed.

Upon VOID’s release in September, KEN mode will embark on a tour of Europe, including dates with Fange and Lingua Ignota, followed by US dates with Baroness and a slot on the next Decibel Metal & Beer Fest in Denver.

With just over one week to go before their tour commences, Oxbow have shared the video/track ‘The Night The Room Started Burning’- directed by Chris Purdie. The track appears on their new album, Love’s Holiday, out now via Ipecac Recordings.

About the video and track, Eugene S. Robinson says,

“Lyrically it’s a purposeful take on Johnny Hartman’s ‘The Day the World Stopped Turning’ but instead of the power of love to alter our proximal relationships it’s, in my mind, all about the incendiary nature of suchlike love. It fulfils specifically because it fills you with that which burns. And that’s something that absolutely no one slow walks.”

Niko Wenner comments, "I began the music for ‘The Night The Room Started Burning’ on my fathers old folk/classical nylon string guitar, a tune to amuse my young son. My mother played clarinet in high school but it was my father who took me to see my first string quartet concert in Seattle when I was a kid, and who inspired my love for classical music. Including, as an influence heard in this song, baroque period music. “What’s not to like about baroque music? You can dance to it, it’s got a beat!”

Wenner continues, "And you can hear the steady dance rhythm in …Room Burning. And a bit of baroque style in the way the guitar line sounds like two voices in a call and response, first higher “bah bah dee bah dee dee,” and the second, lower, answering the first and going down “BAH BAH BAH.” And of course the choir. The elephant in the room here is the guy, baroque composer J.S. Bach, whose name we should never speak in the same breath as our own, from humility, and respect. Enjoy."

For this follow-up effort to their 2021 debut album Blacken the Skies, the Terminal formula of industrial glam has been updated with ‘more industrial, more glam.’ Mainman Thomas Mark Anthony also makes a strident case for being his genre’s best wordsmith, weaving grand themes of power, zealotry and corruption via complex rhymes and anthemic choruses. Picking up where its predecessor left off in its excoriation of society’s dangerous hypocrites, the very first line on the new record is “How many guns would Jesus buy?” Plato’s Republic provides the album title and theme – that an unjust society is a doomed society and democracy in itself is no defence against demagogues or tyrants – while Anthony’s sonorous baritone is prominent in the mix as he ponders existential themes of religion and mortality.

Compared to the rapid-fire delivery of Blacken The Skies, the new Terminal songs are wider in breadth and depth as well as longer in duration, while experimental influences are evident in the orchestral-inspired title track and in the hard glam of ‘Don’t Be Taken Alive’, which is believed to be the first industrial blues shuffle. The album includes four instrumentals among its thirteen tracks.

The New Republic is dedicated to the late Metropolis Records label founder Dave Heckman.

The soundtrack to a world unbalanced, reeling, spinning out of control and running out of time, Terminal allies industrial music and glam rock with trace quantities of dark techno, synthpop and raw machine recordings. Each of their songs is a broadside against the atrocities of lost humanity and the devastation of our planet.

Terminal is the work of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Mark Anthony. A lifelong anti-apartheid and civil rights activist over a life lived in South Africa, Canada and the United States, Anthony is joined by the US-based Terminal Live Unit for his group’s powerful and confrontational live shows.

‘A Cabin In Montana’, the glacial third single from Hexvessel’s Polar Veil album, is a paean to radical environmental advocacy and unflinching nature worship. Speaking to a “deeper sense of belonging” in the wilderness, ‘A Cabin In Montana’ draws from the eternal well of early nocturnal Black Metal, combined with hypnotic ritual chants and hypnotic synths and Hexvessel’s timeless themes of nature mysticism.

Main man Kvohst explains “You should all open this symbolic letter from a cabin in Montana. Step outside and get a deeper sense of meaning. Only then will life begin anew.”

Greek grindcore veterans Head Cleaner (not to be confused with 90s UK noise act Headcleaner) have just shared a music video for a brand new song off their fourth full-length album The Extreme Sound Of Truth, which is set to be released on September 8th via Vinyl Store Gr.

Titled ‘Not Like All Of You’, this music video was directed by Jim Evgenidis.

Featuring 11 tracks in almost 25 minutes, Head Cleaner waste no time and remain persistent and ferocious throughout. Tracks like ‘Cold Machines’ and ‘Mass Production Dream’ are just two of the album’s most relentlessly devastating, featuring powerful, furious riffs and inhuman, rapid-fire blast beats, while tracks like ‘Not Like All Of You’ and ‘For Tomorrow’s Lesson’ show a more mid-paced stomp, containing intense grooves and crushing riffs while maintaining the same level of severity. Hailing from Thessaloniki, Head Cleaner have been an important part of the city’s extreme underground scene for the last two decades. Electro-Industrial band, State Of The Union has unveiled their latest single release, ‘Purgatory’.

‘Purgatory’ is a song that explores the topic of suicide. As human beings, we go through the ‘ups’ and ‘downs’. Some of us have a harder time than others dealing with these emotions. Some of us can even get to the brink of suicide because we want to make it end as fast as we can.

In esoteric belief, a person who commits suicide disrupts their karmic flow and goes to a timeless place where one second could feel like a million years! This is very hard to comprehend within our own minds. To experience something like that, we have to have an out-of-body experience and travel to a very low-frequency dimension known as purgatory.

In some religions, purgatory is known as the place where spirits go to pay for their sins and burn karma before they move on to their next life experience. All in all, we will never know unless we go there. That’s why it is better to keep making powerful electronic music that makes club-goers dance their nights away to songs like ‘Purgatory.’

Irish indie favorites Soda Blonde are delighted to reveal the music video for their latest single ‘Bad Machine’, the first from the band’s upcoming Dream Big album, due for release on September 8th.

‘Bad Machine’ fuses warm vocals with fuzzy synths, bringing a sense of sonic pleasure with its self-acceptance message. Indie pop and vibrant electronica combine to create a song with vigour and excitement.

When discussing the single’s new music video, guitarist Adam O’Regan writes: “For this video we wanted to explore the idea of ‘malfunction’. In an age of increasing automation, artificial intelligence etc, it’s easy to imagine the many ways things could go awry. But also, we just wanted to break stuff! Our talented & hardworking production designers built the set in 2 days, and we destroyed it in 10 mins of 16mm film.”

Soda Blonde has grown tremendously in the years since their debut, and it shows. Whereas 2021’s Small Talk was an anxiety-fuelled coming-of-age record about navigating our twenties, Dream Big is a mature awakening to the world at large; one that dives deeper and hits harder than its predecessor.

Dream Big is as much a product of self-reflective reckoning as it is one of submission, and both of these experiences are borne out in its songs. Soda Blonde begins Dream Big by asking what they’re willing to sacrifice in order to achieve their dreams, and as the album continues, they wrestle with the sheer weight of that question.

Aural Aggro faves Pound Land have unveiled an eye-bleeding, brain-melting video for the track ‘Liar’. It’s taken from their recent Singles Club compilation, released last month on Cruel Nature, which collects all the digital singles released between April 2022 and April 2023 in a physical form. It also emerges ahead of new album Violence which is out next month.

Swedish crust/death-metal unit Industrial Puke have recently shared a music video for a new track off the band’s debut album “Born Into the Twisting Rope” is, which was released in mid-May on Suicide Records.

In 2017, with fresh memories of previous musical trials and tribulations, Jens Ekelin (Rentokiller) called out for comrades sharing a love for Disrupt to start a new band. Swiftly Linus Jägerskog (Burst) and Marko Partanen (Rentokiller) both roared out a non-hesitant YES! and off Industrial Puke went. Following a long period of writing music and finding members, Mattias Rasmusson (Obstruktion/Blessings/Gust) and Erik Harald (Rentokiller) completed the line-up and recording ensued.  

After the band self-released the debut single and video ‘Mental Taxation’ in June 2022, Gothenburg-based Suicide Records offered to work with Industrial Puke. The partnership began with the release of the debut EP Where Life Crisis Starts in September 2022. 

The album shows Industrial Puke honing in on their collective influences from hometown Gothenburg, the Swedish hardcore and death metal-scenes as well as the furious energy of acts like Disrupt, Kontrovers, Drop Dead and Napalm Death. The idea from the get-go was to focus on short straightforward songs and this album leaves little space for contemplation or rest.

From the galloping opening in ‘Mental Taxation’ to the raging closer ‘Innards on the Outside’, every song has its own belligerent identity. There is d-beat mosh on ‘Reactionary Warfare’, high-velocity crust on ‘Neurosexist Motherfucker’ featuring vocals by Hanna Stjernlöf of Socialstyrelsen, heavy HM-2 groove on ‘General Gluttony’ and relentless death metal in ‘Hell Is In Hello’. The lyrics deal with issues of self-doubt, conservatism as the new black and feeling out of place in crowds and out of touch with the world.
