The final song in a trilogy of time-related experimental tracks, ‘Mnemosyne’ incorporates an original song – recorded in Mayfair Studios, London, in 1975 – into poetic musings, and haunting atmospherics, dwelling on nostalgia and false memory.

Electro-industrial band, THE FAIR ATTEMPTS have unveiled their latest single: the hauntingly cinematic, ‘Apart’.

‘Apart’ is a collaboration with renowned producer, Jaani Peuhu who also contributed vocals to the track. The single fuses melancholic depth with pulsating beats, creating a sonic landscape destined for gothic club nights and introspective moments alike.

‘Apart’ is a darkly captivating dance between sorrow and regret—a raw exploration of the human condition set against a driving industrial rhythm. Equal parts emotionally charged and dance floor-ready, it captures the essence of deep introspection while inviting listeners to move to its beat.

Imagine yourself adorned in grief, yet swaying in sync to a parade of emotions. That’s the soul of ‘Apart’. THE FAIR ATTEMPTS founding member, Timo Haakana explains. “I’ve carried my sorrow like a crown. There’s a certain elegance with it and I think we tapped into that feeling with our producer, Jaani."

Seattle’s MUSEUM OF LIGHT Unveils ‘Born All Wrong’, the third single off upcoming sophomore album Diviner, out March 14

Drummer Rob Smith says, “As with much of Diviner, ‘Born All Wrong’ is a continuation of all the things that interested us on our first record, just taken further. The heavy stuff is heavier, the pretty stuff is prettier, and the weird stuff is weirder. The song dives into some of the expanded sonic palette that sets this record apart from Horizon. Here, we used a new, lower tuning, replaced some of the synth parts with a human voice (Elissa Alvarez, who is all over this record), and even mixed in some of the crashing waves and sea birds we heard outside the studio window as we worked. The big riff that anchors the first half of the song was written several years ago when we were between bassists. So, we were leaning more on huge, monolithic ideas that sounded good with the guitar running through both guitar and bass amps at the same time. As one of the older songs on the album, we weren’t sure if if was going to make the cut, but as soon as we heard playbacks in the studio, we all had the same thought: ‘well, that’s definitely making the record.’”

Museum Of Light’s sound blends crushing, heavy swagger with ethereal, sparkling melodies, creating a dynamic, otherworldly atmosphere that combines raw intensity with haunting, operatic vocals and poetic, existential lyrics.

Following a triumphant return to the spotlight in November 2024 with ‘Let The Flowers Grow’, his duet with Boy George, original post-punk icon Peter Murphy has today released ‘Swoon’, a brand new single that also serves as the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for his fans.

Percussive and expansive, ‘Swoon’ is a superlative slice of synth-punk/funk that captures Murphy’s voice in all its sonorous glory. Produced by Youth (Pink Floyd, The Verve, Crowded House, member of Killing Joke, The Orb, The Firemen w/Paul McCartney), the song is the first to be released from Murphy’s new album, Silver Shade, due out on 9th May 2025. Recorded at Youth’s studio in Spain, it is the long-awaited follow-up to Lion, which the pair worked on together a decade ago. A symbiotic relationship born of artistic collaboration, Murphy states that “this new album is as powerful as any of my work to date.”

UK Progressive Rock group Frost* is pleased to share a new stand-alone single titled ‘Western Atmosphere.’ This song was originally featured as a Japanese-only bonus track on the album ‘Life in the Wires,’ and sees band leader Jem Godfrey joined by Randy McStine (Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree – live guitarist), Mike Keneally (Devin Townsend) & Nick D’Virgilio (Big Big Train).

Godfrey says this about the track: “I sometimes wonder what would have happened had I stayed in bed 10 minutes longer than I did on Monday 11th of January 2010. Perhaps my life would have gone in a completely different direction and Frost* would have ended up with the lineup of myself on keys, vocals and bass, Mike Keneally on guitar, Nick D’Virgilio on drums and Randy McStine on guitar and vocals. We’ll never know, I guess.”

Ahead of the release if their seventh full-length album, A Pathway to the Moon, Unreqvited, the Canadian blackgaze solo-project of 鬼 (Ghost), has unveiled a new lyric visualiser for ‘Void Essence / Frozen Tears’. While it’s a timely taster for the album it’s also a reminder that singles are something of a rarity nowadays. I can’t help but feel that this is a significant loss. Perhaps not so much for acts like Unreqvited, whose singles are unlikely to garner radio play or drive the same kind of album-buying traction singles would in the 80s or 90s. The Internet has certainly changed our habits when it comes to music consumption, and while one may reasonably argue that the old industry model was a massive con on so many levels, we not longer appreciate the single as we once did. Singles were an art, and not only the kind pitched to radio play, and not only the standalone release which bridged spaces between albums and perhaps indicated a transition for an artist.

While it’s true that singles far too long for radio have been around since living memory (The Orb’s ‘Little Fluffy Clouds’ and ‘Psychonaut’ by Fields of the Nephilim spring to mind, but let’s not forget the songs radio made exceptions for, like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘American Pie’), it’s really only with the advent of the digital stream that ten-minute singles have become commonplace. It is, of course, much easier when terrestrial radio play isn’t on the cards, and fitting a track onto a side of vinyl isn’t something which requires consideration either.

If the demise of the single as we used to know it has one positive, it’s that artists are no longer constrained or limited by these boundaries. You want to release a single track that’s three hours long with no interruptions? No problem. No physical release and probably no audience, but no problem. Anyway. ‘Void Essence / Frozen’ is a single released as a lyric video, as seems to be popular right now. It may not be especial popular with me, but that’s neither here nor there.

According to the press release, ‘UNREQVITED explain: “The final advance track, ‘Void Essence / Frozen’ reveals the causatum of its antecedent, traversing vehemently into the undistinguished”, mastermind 鬼 comments. “Obstreperous yet endowed in euphony, it emblematizes a juncture in the greater odyssey by which it subsists. Redolent of prior opera, it is an ardent offering to the fervent disciple.”’ ‘Explain’ may be a rather generous overstatement, but it’s a bold counteractive stance against the perpetual dumbing down and overt aversion to anything which could feasibly construed as art in mainstream culture in recent years.

Clocking in at nine minutes, ‘Void Essence / Frozen Tears’ is but a brief interlude following ‘The Antimatter’. It’s also something of a contrast to its full-blooded raging guitar assault, with a graceful, chiming guitar. It takes a while for the rapid kick-drumming to hit and propel the guitar, by now soaring high, into the stratosphere.

There is so much detail, so much texture subtly woven into the fabric of this epic, epic composition, and then, around the mid-point, the vocals finally arrive. The screaming anguish is almost submerged in the mix… and then, suddenly, we’re adrift in space, airless. An ambient calm descends for a time, paving the way for the ultimate theatrical climax.

The album is now set for release on February 7, 2025.
