Following the announcement of new album The Crying Out of Things, out November 8th, The Body have shared the heavyweight single ‘Removal.’ Digging deep into the duo’s eclectic influences and truly omnivorous taste, ‘Removal’ smelts industrial noise and earth-shattering dub pressure down into a mutant rhythm track. The track unfolds from hypnotic coils of chest-rattling drums and hazy vocal samples echoing out through the dancehall before descending into room-razing, coruscating noise driven by guest vocalist Ben Eberle’s caustic howls.

From The Body’s origins, incorporating unorthodox methods to achieve an oppressive atmosphere has been essential to their alchemy. Full choirs, unexpected sound samples, 70s-inspired horn lines, dub drum beats and diverse guest performances have speckled their varied and eclectic repertoire, the common thread being a complex webs of distortion and noise. The Crying Out of Things harnesses elements from their ground breaking catalogue: the expansive ecstatic distortion and live energy of I’ve Seen All I Need To See, the ambitious layering and arrangements on I Have Fought Against It, But I Can’t Any Longer, and the corroded pop edge of No One Deserves Happiness into one compact work. Guest performances include vocalist Ben Eberle, horn player Dan Blacksburg, and recent collaborator Felicia Chen add essential textural range. The Crying Out Of Things makes clear The Body’s distinct power to convey a dark range of emotions, thought inventive arrangements, dynamics, and sound selections.

Blood Incantation have finally released a preview into their forthcoming album, Absolute Elsewhere which sees its release next Friday via Century Media. Its first movement, ‘The Stargate’ is available today in its entirety across digital retailers and comes with an exquisite short film, The Stargate which was directed by award winning cinematographer Michael Ragen (Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities: The Viewing) and features mesmerising analog fluid effects by Chris Parks (The Fountain).

‘The Stargate’ Side One: A violent storm invokes the familiar before a grand cosmic key turn for a hint of sweeping scope to come with spiritual acknowledgement and accompaniment by Tangerine Dream’s Thorsten Quaeschning on synths on the song’s second tablet. Musically as violent as it is mediative, with subtle spoken passages flitting between Nicklas Malmqvist’s (Hällas) busy synthesiser keys and Mellotron strings invoking both the modern and ancient, and it is all given sharp focus by Arthur Rizk’s powerfully dynamic and enveloping mix. Blood Incantation depart Extreme Metal’s traditionally antiquated way-station, warping their way towards ‘Genre of One’ stature, as ‘The Stargate’ intones the disembodiment of consciousness itself, careening through the stargate towards Samsara-like reincarnation, punctuated by the occasional growl from Sijjin/ex-Necros Christos main-man, Malte Gericke.

‘The Stargate’ short film is unlike anything you have experienced before. It presents the saga of a mysterious artefact and its victims in a hallucinatory synthesis of science fiction and folk horror, where mind-bending imagery and unsettling atmospheres converge in a surreal tale of primeval blood magic, inter-dimensional travel and grotesque otherworldly technology beginning in the Dark Ages and journeying into voids of deep space.

Absolute Elsewhere hovers at nearly 45 minutes, their longest full length recording yet, the album’s two movements – ‘The Stargate’ and ‘The Message’ – are as confounding as they are engaging, exponentially expanding upon the formulas laid down by their scene-shattering debut Starspawn (2016) and landmark follow up Hidden History of the Human Race (2019).

As Blood Incantation’s Paul Riedl tells, “Absolute Elsewhere is our most potent audial extract/musical trip yet; like the soundtrack to a Herzog-style Sci-Fi epic about the history of/battle for human consciousness itself, via a 70s Prog album played by a 90s Death Metal band from the future.” For inspiration, the group looked to the mid-70’s progressive rock collective, Absolute Elsewhere (best known as a celestial stopover for King Crimson drummer, Bill Bruford) as the album’s namesake. For the uninitiated, Absolute Elsewhere’s obscure 1976 album, In Search of Ancient Gods, was constructed as a musical accompaniment to the works of Chariots of the Gods author, Erich Von Daniken, and his theories of non-terrestrial humanoid prompts towards mankind’s evolution. The subject matter of which should serve as no surprise to anyone familiar with Blood Incantation’s cosmically philosophical leanings. But make no mistake, the four musicians working under the Blood Incantation banner for the past decade – guitarist and vocalist Paul Riedl, drummer Isaac Faulk, guitarist Morris Kolontyrsky and bassist Jeff Barrett – have successfully left the microgravity of genre behind and are re-writing the Rosetta Stone of extreme music with a new language entirely. Demonstrations like their 2022 all-synth show or 2024’s Roadburn Festival headlining appearance where they played back-to-back death metal and ambient made it clear: Blood Incantation have honed their abilities to go boldly where few bands have gone before, and reveal no signs of slowing down.

Absolute Elsewhere’s release comes alongside a 73 minute feature film All Gates Open: In Search Of Absolute Elsewhere which tells the story of their time in Berlin during the summer of 2023, while recording at the legendary Hansa Studios. It will be available on Blu-Ray with the album’s deluxe mediabook package and will also include the documentary’s original soundtrack, All Gates Open (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) which includes 60 minutes of exclusive new music distinct from the new album. This special edition will also include Blood Incantation’s 2023 maxi-single, ‘Luminescent Bridge’ for the first time ever on CD, and of course, Absolute Elsewhere in both standard and Dolby Atmos / 5.1 mixes, alongside exclusive liner notes, exclusive interviews, behind the scenes photos and a forward by Ross Dolan of Immolation.

Straight out of the Virginmays songbook ‘There Ain’t No Future’ is the next chapter in the duo’s heart felt message to the world, with their hearts on their sleeves and a fire in their belly this new single delivers the unashamed raw power of Rage Against the Machine with the swagger of peak Kasabian.

Frontman Ally states, “This is a track for the uninspired, for the unheard, those who crave truth and all that’s real. Those struggling day to day to make ends meet, yet still have love in their hearts to fight the good fight. Those who see the system is broken and choose not to punch down.

We’re really proud of this track, musically, we haven’t released a song like this before, it’s a further glimpse into an album we consider our best work to date.”

The House Beyond The Fires is the band’s first album since they reformed as a two piece in 2021, teaming up with Dave Draper to produce the drums and guitars (Terrorvision, The Wildhearts) and Karl Daniel Lidén from Sweden for the mix and mastering – an instant go-to after hearing his work (Dozer, Greenleaf) and this approach has certainly paid off.

Ally continues, “We have always been renowned for the power and energy of our live performances and strived to recreate that intensity through the production and mix of the records. I feel like we’ve really turned a corner with this album.”

The official video was the brainchild of Drummer Danny Dolan shot with Joel Gardner.

From the deep woods now emerges Birna, Wardruna’s sixth studio album. Through his restless dialogue with nature, main composer Einar Selvik has been searching for the voice of the bear, resulting in this upcoming release, scheduled for January 2025.

Birna – the she-bear in Old Norse – is a work of art dedicated to the guardian of the forest, nature’s caretaker, and her battles here on earth. Slowly driven out of her habitat by modern day societies, she has entered a stage of permanent hibernation. As a result, the forest is gradually dying, longing for its pulse and heart – its shepherd. Birna calls for her return.

“Where the previous album Kvitravn was a step conceptually from the past to the present, Birna even more so seeks to address the here and now and the way forward,” states composer Einar Selvik.

Alongside the album announcement is a new single and music video for "Himinndotter," the song constitutes a search and a calling for our lost sister of the woods. Composer Einar Selvik states “Himinndotter (Sky-daughter) is part of a six-song exploration of the bear on Wardruna’s upcoming album Birna (She-bear). The title plays on the globally common notion of the bears mythical origin as a celestial being. Himinndotter features a guest appearance of the Norwegian choir Koret Artemis.”

The video for ‘Himinndotter’ is filmed in Rondane National Park in Norway and is once again directed by Wardruna’s longtime collaborator Tuukka Koski, and produced by Breakfast Helsinki and Ragnarok Film.

Ahead of its release this Friday, September 20, Andrew PM Hunt, aka Dialect, shares a final single from his new album Atlas of Green. For ‘Ancient Faith Radio,’ the second to last piece on the album, Hunt assembled a series of photo slides he acquired online many years ago that capture scenes from many more years ago in a saturated, sentimental haze of technicolor. ‘Ancient Faith Radio’ and its video, as with the album, is an excursion into fragmented memories both lived and yet to be lived, the past and future in a single moment.

Mapping new folds in the passage of time, Atlas of Green is traced with an aura of sonic urgency which arises through its process-led construction. The album embraces chance encounters within the malfunctions of physical media and glitching gear. Within these interwoven clusters of organic and blemished sound, Dialect reclaims the joyfulness of the inner amateur and creates a soft landing for new seeds of magical possibility – rooted in the bounds and abundance of realism.

Dialect’s Atlas of Green will be released on vinyl, Japanese import CD, and digital editions on September 20, 2024. With their final single in advance of their new album, the melancholia driven mid-tempo track ‘But Today’,

Soror Dolorosa present a different facet of Mond. Illuminated by a visualiser, this song channels classic Wave sounds into an expression of sorrow and regret. ‘But Today’ is taken from the forthcoming new full-length of the French post-punk gothic rockers, which is entitled Mond (the German word for ‘Moon’), and has been slated for release on October 4, 2024.

Soror Dolorosa comment: “The last advance single ‘But Today’ is also the final song on our new album and one of my favorites so far”, mastermind Andy Julia writes. “Creating the different phases of the song was the result of a magnificent teamwork. It gave me particularly great pleasure to get my vocals and the choirs into harmony with the keyboards that you can hear in the chorus. This might well be our most progressive track on Mond that also has the most complex structure. We felt thrilled when we noticed that the complexity was not mitigating the efficacy of the groove and the brilliance of harmonies. Our producer James Kent told us: ‘This reminds me of the Fields of the Nephilim, what a smash!’. All of us in the band were rather thinking about Depeche Mode when we designed the sound and that particular tone of the guitar riffs. I could hardly visualise this song more efficiently than by unveiling the artistic process behind the creation of the cover artwork for Mond that was inspired by my muse. At the beginning of the shooting we had this idea of creating a mysterious character like the myth of the Ancient Greek seer Pythia. Therefore, we began to work with poses of a veiled lady who utters prophecies while having divine visions in a state of trance. Yet with the passing of each hour, the spirit of the moon goddess came over us and Angélique’s naked body finally reflected the light of the stars that are falling apart somewhere between the flame of the sun and the cold nocturnal light of the moon in a perfect symbiosis.”

Benefits blast in ahead of another substantial UK / EU tour with the release of the first new material since their debut album, Nails.

‘Land of the Tyrants’ features additional vocals by Zera Tønin of Arch Femmesis.

It may be more overtly dancey than previous outings, hitting an almost trance groove, perhaps even a bit KLF, and the rage is more simmering than roaring in in terms of delivery, but lyrically… as explosive as ever, ‘Land of the Tyrants’ tells it like it is. The video is more overtly produced, but it’s dark and stark. It’s grim up north, right?

Greek black metal collective Eldingar is excited to announce the release of their second album, Lysistrata, due out on November 1st via Vinyl Store. Following the success of their 2021 debut Maenads, the band’s latest effort builds on their intense and philosophical approach to music.

The band shared their thoughts on the track: “’ODE’ is a hymn to the enduring pain and the human struggle to assimilate grief, often finding it difficult to express sorrow through tears. The lyrics touch on the emotional states that can lead people to despair, and in some cases, to suicide. Psychological dead ends, a timeless affliction, plague humanity and ultimately bring destruction—both in our era and throughout history.”

Lysistrata delves into themes of the dissolution of armies and the rejection of power, while exploring emotional liberation from submission. Eldingar’s music combines anti-war sentiments and reverence for nature, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek philosophy and weaving them into their sound.

British desert rockers PSYCHLONA turn out to be sly cool cats that invite you to a chill ride on their ‘Magic Carpet’. This is also the title of their latest video single taken from the forthcoming new full-length Warped Vision, which is scheduled for release on September 27, 2024.

PSYCHLONA comment: “At the beginning, ‘Magic Carpet’ was a jazzy guitar piece that Martin brought along to rehearsal one day”, singer and guitarist Phil Heay tells on behalf of the band. “The riff sounded so cool and upbeat that we brought it down with some dark lyrics, and we also gave it some welly with a mega-riff in the second half. This one should get the pit going – then it’ll be goodnight from us.”
