Ok, so Thunderclap is new to us, too. And we thought we knew everything about music promo. It turns out it’s a no-money pledge thing, whereby the only committment on the part of the pledger is to share a link.

While we’re new to Thunderclapping, Salvation Jayne are known to us here at Aural Aggravation, and their single, ‘Burn it Down’, is a belter that deserves to be heard far and wide. You can get involved in making a Thunderclap wave for Salvation Jayne here: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/56919-burn-it-down. Who knows, this could be the future of music promo.

In advance of the video release, you can get your lugs round ‘Burn it Down’ here:

Who knew that Chester was a happening place? Chester Live – a multi-venue, musically-diverse three dayer set for June – serves the precise purpose of putting the city out there and showing there’s more to Chester than Hollyoaks.

Unlike the high-profile city festivals, Chester Live is less about big-name headline draws and more about showcasing up-and-coming talent, with a strong emphasis on artists from the region. With 12 venues featuring genres spanning folk, rock, acoustic, metal, and electronic music, there’s no shortage of variety, or quality.

Brass Band legends, The Hot 8 Brass Band and UK alt-rock standouts Allusondrugs join Welsh alt-psych act HMS Morris, and Steph Carter’s post-Gallows band The Ghost Riders in the Sky, as well as local (and regional acts) including: Hollows, Peaness (pictured), Campfire Social, Sustinere, Shot Of Hornets, Alx Green, Damon Jacs and Indio’s Dream as a selection of the first acts announced for Chester Live 2017.

Peaness band

Chester Live returns for its third year in 2017 with a plethora of cross-genre acts from in, and around the Chester area, performing in venues across the city alongside national and internationally acclaimed bands.

As with previous years, Alexander’s Live, The Live Rooms, The Cornerhouse, The Piper and Telford’s Warehouse will host shows, while St Werbergh Centre will also host a number of artists. In addition, Chester Live 2017 will feature the Chester Live Street Festival taking place on Brook Street, bringing live music into the city, and directly to the people of Chester.

Chester Live 2017 will take place from 22-25 of June.

We don’t normally replicate press circulations wholesale, but this… well, this is huge It just had to be shared, and requires no input from us here at AA:

‘WHERE DOES A BODY END?’ is the first-ever authorized documentary of the band Swans. A Kickstarter fundraising effort is being launched to raise production funds and help see the project to fruition.

The film will not only focus on the various historical stages of the band’s career but also investigate band founder/leader Michael Gira’s vision and determination, which have been the powerhouse that has fueled this group’s run of unprecedented, explosive art for 35 years, a burden shouldered by him for better or worse the entire time.

The aim of the documentary is not to be just a traditional music documentary about a band but more of an artistic piece to help put the band and its music in their rightful place in the annals of cultural history. Marco Porsia, the filmmaker, has gained great personal insight into the band by filming them live since 2010.

…and collected hundreds of hours of never before seen archival video and photographic documentation of Swans from 1982 to 1997.  This will capture the intensity of the band throughout the years and will be supported with interviews from past and present band members and journalists, as well as importantimportant musical figures of the music industry – Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo, JG "Foetus" Thirwell, Karen O, Amanda Palmer, Kid Congo Powers, Daniel Miller (Mute), Jehnny Beth (Savages), and Jarboe among them.

Consistently at the vanguard of music, as Swans in its current incarnation approaches its ‘end’ with a final album and tour, it is important to capture one of the most influential, unique and powerful bands in history at its peak.

35 years of perseverance, creativity and self reliance has seen the band Swans maintain a unique position in modern music.  From its inception as a NYC ‘noise experience’ to its current maelstroms and intensely focused grooves, Swans have not only survived the music industry, they have transcended musical preconceptions by consistently delving into new musical territory.  This is a band of collaborators, linked by one man, its leader, Michel Gira.

Cinema Cinema, the full-throttle, experimentally-inclined rock duo from Brooklyn,  are getting ready to undertake their latest European tour (dates below). They are currently preparing to maser their fourth full length album, their second with Martin Bisi producing at BC Studios in Brooklyn, NY. In finishing the work they’ve overcome obstacles that included the studio – and much of their equipment being stolen from the recording studio.

Cinema Cinema first met Martin Bisi in 2012 in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Bisi, whose BC Studios was located just a few blocks away from the band’s rehearsal studio, was walking through the streets overwhelmed by the destruction he encountered when he came upon guitarist Ev Gold and drummer Paul Claro clearing ruined instruments and amps from the remains of their practice space. The three immediately struck up a friendship and kept in touch thereafter.

Soon after that incident, the band experienced an amazing outpouring of sympathy and support from their friends, fans and fellow musicians who donated money and equipment, bought records and merchandise. This allowed Cinema Cinema to refurbish and replace equipment, and – with a bit of borrowed gear – and start playing live again within two weeks. In 2013, the duo would wind up performing some 75 shows, including  a handful of dates opening for Black Flag, as well as their first European tour, opening for Bisi.  Martin had kept in contact and they shared bills in Brooklyn shows which led to the European touring and then producing A Night At The Fights.
