Watch: ‘Orchid’ by Black Nail Cabaret

Black Nail Cabaret have released a video single for the new track ‘Orchid’. The Hungarian avant-garde synth pop duo that has added this stunning song to the bonus material, which is enhancing the reissue of their originally self-released and thus widely overlooked 2018 masterpiece Pseudopop. The album will first be re-released on Digipak CD and at a later date also on vinyl due to production shortages. Pseudopop will also include the previously hidden bonus track ‘The Worm’ and the Digipak CD has been slated to hit stores on April 29, 2022.

Black Nail Cabaret comment: “We wrote ‘Orchid’ towards the end of 2021, which means that this song is a completely new recording”, singer Emèse Árvai-Illes reveals. “We felt that the remastered Pseudopop needed a new track in addition to the previously hidden track, ‘The ‘Worm’. It was a means to distinguish the reissue from the original first release and and also adds value for those fans, who already own Pseudopop, but want to have the new version as well. ‘Orchid’ fits perfectly into the atmosphere and concept of the album. The song deals with intimacy and trust, but also obsession and vulnerability. The music video was created by Tamás Mesmer, who has previously captured the wonderful images for our songs ‘My Casual God’ and ‘Resonance’. He approached the clip from the perspective of obsession and intimacy. Tamás’ clip conveys the feeling of a 90s art film about a complex relationship.”

Watch: ‘Liar’ by Shooting Daggers

You could say that feminist/queercore punk trio Shooting Daggers have been ‘nailing it’ since the release of their first single ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’ last year.

Amongst a clutch of rave reviews of the single, they have become a ‘must see’ on the grass roots punk circuit, on top of that the band were invited to support Amyl and the Sniffers at their recent London shows and also asked to play Desertfest 2022. Their upward trajectory seems inevitable.

Perhaps it’s because they are ‘the real deal’.  Shit kicking UKHC full of youthful fury and shorn of vacuous posturing. Fierce and committed in what they believe in, as how they play. Case in point being their latest track ‘Liar’. The band says …

‘Liar is a song about breaking the silence over abusers, a song that calls them out for who they really are with no more excuses. This is a really important song to us and we would like to spread this message, to not only the victims of rape and abuse, but also to the entire community, encouraging people to not engage with abusers and to stop trying to justify their rapist friends’

The video that goes with it (created by guerrilla filmmakers Punkvert TV) echoes that sentiment.

‘Liar’ is taken from Athames the band’s debut EP set to be released on 20th May by New Heavy Sounds. Landing on 7” eco mix coloured vinyl with an 8 page lyric booklet and full download included. Limited to 500 copies. The ep will also get a limited edition CD and audio cassette release as well as being available on digital platforms.

Watch: ‘Pyramind’ by Ufomammut

As Italian masters of heavy psychedelia Ufomammut prepare to release their ninth full-length album, Fenice, through Neurot Recordings in early May, they have just shared a video for ‘Pyramind’.

For more than two decades, Ufomammut has combined the heaviness and majesty of dynamic riff worship with a nuanced understanding of psychedelic tradition and history in music, creating a cosmic, futuristic, and technicolour sound destined for absolute immersion. Fenice, “phoenix” in Italian, represents endless rebirth and the ability to start again after everything seems doomed. The album is the first recording with new drummer Levre joining Poia and Urlo, marking a new chapter in the band’s history and unveiling a more intimate, free sound for the group.

The second single from Fenice, ‘Pyramind’ is delivered through a visualiser filmed in a scenic rural setting in Italy. Guitarist Poia reveals, “To choose a single track from Fenice isn’t easy, because the songs are long and linked together, and the flow results are incomplete. But we think that ‘Pyramind’ represents in a very clear way Ufomammut’s two-souls attitude: the heaviness melted down with psychedelia.”

SUPREME UNBEING is a mysterious 5-piece metal band led by vocalist/prophet Zac Red, with his fellow prophets D.Vine (Lead Guitar), D.Sciple (Rhythm Guitar), Unknown (Bass) and Al Mytee (Drums). Although the band just recently transformed from animated characters into real flesh and blood entities, their impact has been felt in the physical domain since the release (October 2020) of their debut full-length album Enter Reality which garnered an 8/10 rating in Metal Hammer (Greece) and a 3rd place in “Album of the Year 2020” according to the readers of Sweden Rock Magazine, amongst other noteworthy accomplishments such landing Spotify Editorial Playlist placements on Thrashers and New Metal Tracks, and combining a staggering +10 million digital and video streams since their debut.

With all the success, the bands greed has started to grow even further, to the point that they recently sold their souls to the Devil in order to reach a broader audience. The Devil betrayed the band (to no one’s surprise!) and left the band to rot in their own greed until today, April 1, 2022, when the band released their fourth, devil-fooling, single – ‘The Devil Smiles’ – from their upcoming, second, full-length album Enduring Physicality (to be released 5.5.22).

“As the population is ever-increasing, people grow up, and behave as lifeless puppets programmed to think and act in a certain pre-disposed way thinking that publicly recognized success is the aim of their lives. Yes, we all long for success, and everyone can reach their success. With Swedish actor Dragomir Mrsic (known from Snabba Cash, and Edge Of Tomorrow co-starred along Tom Cruise) continuing to portray different characters in the “mini-series” that the Supreme Unbeing music videos are leading to, he is joined this time by Swedish MMA-fighters Samuel Ericsson & Camila Rivarola who will be trying to give the other a pounding to avoid the flames of hell.

Behold! I Am The Night release a new music video from their debut album released this coming May on Svart Records.

The new band featuring Finnish metal scene legends opens an ancient chasm of Black Metal, born of an epic tradition.

Rising from the deep valleys of Kymi in southernmost Finland, I Am The Night is Black Metal rooted in the classic early 90’s tradition, where walls of guitars and synthesizers raise the forces of darkness in a battle against the heavens and burning angels light up the night sky.

The band’s debut full length album, with cover art by scene legend Necrolord, bears the title While The Gods Are Sleeping and shall be released on May 6th, 2022. The record was birthed during the heaviest blizzard Finland had seen in years in the winter of 2021, with the band holed up at the Soundspiral Audio studio during the height of the pandemic.” On new single, ‘I Am The Night’ the band comment,

”We had a certain 90’s video in our mind when we gave Jari Heino instructions to create this one. This is his modern take on that classic, and the way we wanted it to look. The song itself is a swing of a morning star to one’s head. Aggressive and harsh, but still the melodic aspects can be found. Listen and wander into the night.”

Watch: ‘Tripping Up The Stairs’ by Helms Alee

Seattle three-piece Helms Alee announced a new album Keep This Be The Way for April 29th via Sargent House earlier this month and today they’re back with the final single before it’s release.

‘Tripping Up The Stairs’ pits nightmarish synths against a barrage of distortion and is accompanied with an Apocalypse Now meets Swamp Thing styled video focused on the concept of control. The director Ron Harrell notes:

"The idea that I wanted to convey when we set out filming the video was an uncomplicated yet visually compelling version of finding said control. To me it became as simple as floating at sea and finding sure footing on land. Helms Alee has a pretty hydrous identity as it is, so incorporating that part came naturally. I had an initial cut of the video that was a little cleaner and realistic, visually speaking. The band saw it and, what I heard them say was “that’s great, now fuck it up”. So I fucked it up and this is the result."

On the collaboration, the band says:

"Ron Harrell is one of our dearest friends, so it felt very easy and natural to be directed into vulnerable states by him. Having been by our side through most of the creation of our latest record via assisting with engineering, contributing thoughts and ideas, and generally being a friend to us, it made perfect sense to collaborate with him in this format. Photography and videography are natural ways that Ron expresses his love of life. That is made clear by the visual beauty of this video. He took a complicated feeling and created a weird fever dreamscape story to express that feeling. He applied his empathetic nature to incorporate the feelings/needs of the band while sculpting a story only he knew how to tell."

“Witchy” goth rock band, METAMORPH recently unveiled their new single, ‘Love In The Wreckage.’ Not, sadly, an homage to JG Ballard, the song tells a story of life in today’s chaotic world. It’s a transmutation of the world’s chaos into love; a tale of light in the dark.

METAMORPH’s music has always been about change. 2021 was full of so much chaos and pain. METAMORPH’s Margot Day says: “There has been a strange undercurrent of joy in the madness. I found myself transforming this emotional intensity into a spiritual awakening. These new lyrics and melodies are pouring in like an avalanche.”
