Belgium’s harbingers of doom and despair, Growing Horns, have just unleashed a music video for ‘Godvergeten’, the latest single from their crushing debut album The Essence of Suffering, set to be released on May 3rd.

With riffs that crash like falling cathedral walls and vocals that echo like the wails of the damned, ‘Godvergeten’ is a sludge-soaked sermon of pure sonic punishment. Filmed in stark black and white, the video captures the primal energy and unfiltered bleakness that defines Growing Horns sound.

Formed in 2015 in the shadow-cloaked depths of Kortrijk, Belgium, Growing Horns didn’t emerge as just another sludge band—they rose as a séance. A slow-burning, punishing invocation of pain, fury, and existential dread. Their sound isn’t forged—it’s exorcised.

Their 2019 debut EP, The Nobility of Pain, landed like a blow to the chest. A raw, unrelenting outpouring of emotion that critics called relentless and fans called home. It wasn’t just music—it was a wound. Pulsing. Festering. Unrepentantly real.

Now, the Belgian collective returns with The Essence of Suffering—an album that doesn’t simply gaze into the abyss, but sets up camp, builds an altar, and lights black candles in its honor. Heavier, darker, and more immersive than anything before, this new chapter digs even deeper into their signature sound: a harrowing fusion of sludge, doom, and stoner-infused despair.

Before Witch of the East, there was Chambers. They were a killer band. Since Chambers, Aeris Houlihan has been producing more electronically-orientated works Witch of the East. We’ll let her words and the music speak for themselves here.

This video is a response to the wave of negative messages I received after publicly sharing my truth as a transgender woman. Following a major legal ruling that questions the identity of trans women in the UK, these messages came pouring in — each one a window into a growing cultural shift. But this video isn’t just about one person or one moment. It’s about what happens when fear turns into division — and how that division is used. History has shown us: it never stops with just one group. It always spreads. Until even those watching in silence realise: they were never safe either. This is a document. A reflection. A call to think deeper, love louder, and stand together before more is lost. — Witch of the East

IMHA TARIKAT premiere the intense new video clip ‘The Day I Died (Reborn into Flames)’ as the next single taken from the forthcoming album Confessing Darkness. The fourth full-length from the German black metal band has been slated for release on June 20, 2025.

Imha Tarikat comment: “With the song ‘The Day I Died’ I am publicly sharing my past contemplation of suicide for the first time and reflect on a dark time in my life”, mastermind Kerem Yilmaz reveals. “At the time, I was clinically depressed and saw no hope in my future. Suddenly, something ignited inside of me, and I began fighting my way back into life. Through tears, violence, grief, and anxiety, I finally found my place by rising above the voices that tried to pull me down and by focusing upon that one whisper that told me to fight. That voice grew louder and louder. Since then, I have not looked back. Reborn into the flames, I set everything ablaze with passion upon the path that I walk now.”

‘Mars On A Half Moon Rising’ is the first video from The Sound, the solo debut of much-travelled musician / producer / arranger / painter Knox Chandler. This project is a musical / visual memoir depicting the shift in his surroundings from the urban to the rural, specifically the Connecticut shoreline off the Long Island Sound and the impact of this dramatic change of environment on his consciousness and the art-work that leads to.

At The Sound’s core is Chandler’s “Soundribbon” style of meditative, powerfully cinematic instrumental performance on guitar, accompanied by upright bass and percussion which comprises the audio component of the release. The visual portion is a book of paintings, photographs, sketches and written meditations, interpreting nature through technology. The blending of these mediums is Knox’s attempt to make the diaristic intent of his music explicit. The Sound is being released on Knox’s new label Blue Elastic on May 30. The album is available on digital download and on streaming platforms on its own, or the book comes with a download code. I hope you’ll consider covering Knox with an interview, feature, news story or album review.

Knox Chandler’s career has spanned for over four decades including long stints as a member of The Psychedelic Furs, Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Cyndi Lauper band, extraordinary experiences in recording and performing live around the world. Chandler’s also performed, recorded, arranged and produced, working with acts such as REM, Depeche Mode, Grace Jones, Marianne Faithful, Natalie Merchant, Tricky, The Creatures, Dave Gahan Paper Monsters and The Golden Palominos etc.

Knox spent a decade residing in Berlin, Germany, while he explored sound-scaping. He developed a technique he calls “Soundribbons”, which he recorded and performed in its own right as well as applying it to different genres and mediums . He composed, recorded, toured, produced, and wrote string arrangements for Herbert Grönemeyer, Jesper Munk, Pure Reason Revolution,The Still, TAU, Miss Kenichi and the Sun, Mars William’s Albert Ayler Xmas, Rita Redshoes, Them There, The Night, etc. While living in Germany received a Post Graduate certification in education and was the head of the guitar department at BIMM College.

Lake Fire is the result of a disjointed creative process. Originally conceived as a suite for electronics and ensemble, most of the original compositions were deserted, save for Ash Clouds, featuring James Meager on double bass. The remaining tracks were reshaped and remixed, built anew out of the remnants of the abandoned work. The result is a phoenix, an album burnt to the ground only to be reassembled out of its cinders. Fragments of the original lurk beneath a densely overpainted canvas of sound.

Infused into the resulting rearrangements are impressions from a road trip into the mountains marking a personal half-century milestone, surrounded by the ominous proximity of wildfires and dense smoke; celebrating life while the world burns. The album’s title comes from the striking irony that forest fires are often named after regional lakes – perhaps subconsciously referencing ancient lore. The cover photos were taken from this same trip, while sitting in a rowboat staring into the grey abyss of an opposing mountainside outside of Revelstoke, BC, obfuscated by smoke from a nearby lake fire.

France’s industrial metal duo SCARSET REBELLION is proud to reveal a new single, called ‘Orgasm Dissolution.’ Now available on the main digital streaming platforms, ‘Orgasm Dissolution’ is included in the band’s upcoming album Flesh Against The Void, set to be released on May 16th.

‘Orgasm Dissolution’ is a high-velocity assault of death metal fused with industrial chaos. Fueled by crushing, precision-driven riffs, relentless drumming, and raw, defiant vocals, the track captures the fury of a world collapsing under its own weight. This is the sound of revolution – a battle cry for those who refuse to be broken by corruption and lies. It’s about tearing down illusions, breaking chains, and finding strength in the wreckage.

Composed of 7 tracks for over 38 minutes of duration, Flesh Against The Void is a violent clash of death/thrash metal, industrial brutality, and synth-driven unease. SCARSET REBELLION sculpts an oppressive yet hypnotic sound – where metal grinds against metal, where analog screams in a digital world.

Imagine the mechanical aggression of Godflesh, the sharp grooves of Prong, and the dystopian intensity of Fear Factory, infused with the eerie pulse of synthwave.

Somewhere between the fury of extreme metal and the haunting echoes of electronic atmospheres. This is ”Flesh Against The Void” – a soundtrack for collapsing systems, digital ghosts, and the tension between past and future. Through crushing riffs, industrial beats, and ominous synth layers, the album immerses listeners in a retrofuturistic nightmare – a violent yet introspective journey.

Recorded & mixed by Evil Scar in Bayonne, Flesh Against The Void is both an assault and an introspection – a soundtrack for the end times, forged in metal and machine.

For those who refuse to be silenced. For those who scream with the machine.

Australian post-rock band WE LOST THE SEA have announced details of their fifth studio album A Single Flower which is due for release on Friday July 4. They state:

"The world lay wrecked before us, a quiet ruin of things lost and things that never were. The mornings came like the grinding of old gears, a slow turning toward some unknowable purpose. And yet, in the stillness of despair, the nameless rose. Not for hope, nor for meaning, but because something in the marrow of our bones whispered that to rise was the only rebellion left."

A Single Flower follows five years after their fourth album TRIUMPH & DISASTER which was released just ahead of the pandemic and seemed to foreshadow the era of intensity which followed. It reached the Top 50 charts in Australia upon its released, and the band’s eventual tour in support of the record saw them sell out shows across Europe, the UK, Australia & Asia. The band’s breakout record was their critically-acclaimed 2015 album Departure Songs which featured the standout track ‘A Gallant Gentleman’ (featured in the Ricky Gervais series Afterlife). Departure Songs has amassed millions of streams worldwide and sold over 10,000 copies in physical formats.

Their new record features 6 tracks, among them the sprawling 10-minute epic ‘A Dance with Death’ for which a video has been released, filmed at Rancom Street Studios during the album recording sessions with producer Tim Carr. Watch the video now:

For the first single from Marc Urselli’s Best of Ramones Redux that will be released parallel to the forthcoming MER Redux Series instalment Marc Urselli’s Ramones Redux, Canadian space metal legends VOÏVOD have teamed up with no less legendary Australian post-punk vocalist JG THIRLWELL (FOETUS) to pay a mind-blowing tribute to the most fitting RAMONES’ classic ‘Zero Zero UFO’. The original of the song was released on the US punk rockers’ eleventh full-length Brain Drain (1989).

VOÏVOD comment: “One of the proudest moments of my life was when Joey Ramone gave a shout-out to Voïvod on stage in Montreal in 1994”, drummer Michel “Away” Langevin reminisces. "I’ve been a fan of the Ramones since their first LP, so you can imagine my excitement when Marc Urselli approached us to cover a song for this album. When he mentioned that collaborations were part of the concept, I immediately thought of JG Thirlwell who has been a good friend since the ’80s. While we could have recorded any of their songs, I’ve always dreamed of playing ‘Zero Zero UFO’. I was so excited about the opportunity that I might have played it a bit fast, making it challenging for Snake and Jim to fit every word in. Fortunately, Marc’s production really makes the track shine, and we’re thrilled with the final result. Enjoy!”

VOÏVOD have written metal history since their founding in Jonquière, Quebec in 1982. The Canadians starting out as a thrash band with strong hardcore punk leanings that was considered “experimental” or “progressive” right from the start. Their highly unique sound somehow survived multiple changes and shifts in style as well as changes in the line-up that have left drummer Michael “Away” Langevin as the remaining original member. There could hardly be a better choice for a homage to the RAMONES and the track ‘Zero Zero UFO’ than VOÏVOD. The Canadians were early adopters of a bizarre futuristic space style in artwork and lyrics, and they have already stunned the world with their daring and successful cover of PINK FLOYD’s ‘Astronomy Domine’.

Australian vocalist James George “JG” Thirlwell has become a most influential artist after moving to London, UK in 1978, where he founded FOETUS as the first of many musical projects with a broad stylistic range that includes post-punk, industrial, and trip hop. Under a variety of pseudonyms such as Clint Ruin and Frank Want, he collaborated with artists such as Marc Almond, THE THE, and Nick Cave among many others.

Greek black metal visionary Spider of Pnyx has officially unveiled the latest video from his project FELL OMEN—a visual accompaniment to the crushing and evocative title track from his debut album, Invaded By A Dark Spirit, released last February 14th via True Cult Records.

The album marks the first official release under the Fell Omen name, but Spider of Pnyx is far from a newcomer. Known for his collaborations on acclaimed Mystras and Spectral Lore records, and a shadowy history in dungeon synth and martial industrial, this release brings together all facets of his sonic identity into one unrelenting, genre-defying force.

AA

Spider of Pnyx is also known in the visual arts world as Gilded Panoply, creating surreal and ornate cover art for black metal and dungeon synth artists. That same visual intensity is captured in this new video—bleak, arcane, and mesmerizing.

Recorded and mixed at True Cult Records HQ and mastered at Nidstang Studio, the album is a tour de force of multi-instrumental brilliance. Spider of Pnyx handles every aspect of the music, from vocals and guitars to hurdy-gurdy and drum machines, crafting a seamless blend of medieval fantasy, dark atmospheres, and a fiery mix of metal aggression with punk attitude.
