Big Big Train, the award-winning, progressive rock band, will issue their 16th studio album via InsideOutMusic on 6th February 2026. Woodcut is a landmark release for the group, whose line-up draws together members from England, Scotland, Italy, the USA, Sweden and Norway, in that it marks their first ever full-length conceptual piece – quite a statement given the musical depth and storytelling qualities of a band formed in Bournemouth way back in 1990. Woodcut is a continuous narrative exploring creativity, sacrifice and the thin line between inspiration and madness and featuring a character called The Artist.

Today they launch a second single from the album, titled ‘The Sharpest Blade’, a track that sees violinist Clare Lindley sharing lead vocals with the band’s frontman – and Woodcut producer – Alberto Bravin.

Lindley, who also wrote the lyrics for ‘The Sharpest Blade’, explains: “Having gone for a walk in the woods and happened upon an amazing piece of heartwood, lit by a natural beam of sunlight, the Artist has taken it home. In the song ‘The Sharpest Blade’, he begins to carve the heartwood. Although he still has doubts and dark inner thoughts, he finds himself carving a wonderful scene. It’s so good that he feels it is perhaps not of his own hand…”

Combining vintage metal codes, electronic music, and modern musicianship, Holosoil is an atypical newcomer to the prog scene. Formed out of the ashes of a previous outfit, the Berlin/Helsinki-based quartet bring their unique sound and style to InsideOutMusic.

Technical but never scholar, raw and mature, fearless to explore and borrow the codes of numerous genres, HOLOSOIL follows the likes of artists like Björk, The Mars Volta, Muse and Tool.

You can get your first taste with their debut single ‘Look Up’, a raw 3-minute display of energy and technicality, marking the band’s first ever release.

Watch the video here:

HOLOSOIL, formerly known as R3VO, is a band founded in 2019 by Victor Nissim (bass) and Jan Kurfürst (guitar), later joined by Altaïr Chagué (drums). The name change occurred after Emelie Sederholm joined the band as lead vocalist, following the departure of Eleonara Barbato. Although most of the band members are based in Berlin, Germany, Emelie lives in Helsinki, Finland while Victor and Altaïr are both French. The result is a gathering of eclectic musicians, manufacturers of a freaky, explosive and sophisticated sound.

Signed to InsideOutMusic in 2023, the formation was previously featured as R3VO in Metal Hammer magazine, performed at Euroblast Festival 2023 and was notably approached by Trinity Music to open for Scottish band Vukovi.

The release of 3 additional singles will lead up to HOLOSOIL´s debut EP, out in 2026.

Lunatic Soul, the Polish outfit lead by Riverside’s main composer and vocalist/bassist Mariusz Duda is pleased to announce their 8th studio album The World Under Unsun, to be released on October 31st, 2025 worldwide (excluding Poland) via InsideOutMusic.

A second, new single off the upcoming album is being launched today. Check out ‘The Prophecy’ – which features music and lyrics composed as well as all instruments performed by Mariusz Duda, except drums by Wawrzyniec Dramowicz – in a video created by Sightsphere here:

Mariusz Duda checked in with the following comment about the song: “’The Prophecy’ is one of the more “rock-oriented” tracks on the upcoming Lunatic Soul double album The World Under Unsun, closer to what I usually offered in Riverside. At the same time, it’s also among the most melodic ones, especially thanks to its catchy chorus. Lyrically, it speaks about the situation when an artist only gains fame after their death. We’ve all probably encountered this phenomenon – when, after an artist’s passing, their work suddenly attracts more attention, new fans appear, and the number of streams and album sales rises. The song’s protagonist is therefore an artist who has just learned, from ‘The Prophecy’, that he will only achieve the fame he longed for after his death. Fortunately, the composition itself is not pessimistic. You can hear hope in it. Musically, the track is epic, emotional, and uplifting.”

Between the Buried and Me offer fans a second preview of the prog-metal titans’ upcoming album, The Blue Nowhere (Sept. 12, InsideOutMusic) with the release of the new track, ‘Absent Thereafter’.

Tommy Rogers describes how the song captures the spirit of the upcoming album: “To me, ‘Absent Thereafter’ feels like the quintessential BTBAM song – fun, intense, spacy, and still fucking heavy. I like to think it takes the listener on an unexpected journey, with ear candy waiting around every corner. It’s a deeper dive into all of the dynamic places you’re taken within The Blue Nowhere!”

Dan Briggs elaborates on the musicality of the single: “This song moves arrangement-wise in two parts divided by a key change and tonal shift of the chorus, but is ultimately the big fun time bombastic energy of a Van Halen shuffle with Huey Lewis and the News horns going through variations that are sometimes heavily syncopated, sometimes lost in space, and sometimes inspiring you to break out into a do-si-do. Grab your washboard and let’s go!”

After the announcement and pre-order start of their sophomore album Waving at the Sky and the release of their first single ‘The Malevolent’ featuring Ross Jennings from Haken, Norwegian prog rockers AVKRVST reveal their second offering – ‘The Trauma’.

Simon Bergseth, vocalist, shares about ‘The Trauma’:

“‘The Trauma’ is the heart of the story— the origin of everything. A harrowing act triggered a wound that never should have been inflicted. This is where it all begins.“

The single comes with a brand-new music video in established AVKRVST aesthetics – a continuation of the story of the lonely, bleak soul in the cabin. Watch the video here:

Jakko M. Jakszyk, perhaps most recently known as lead singer and second guitarist in King Crimson, is proud to announce his new solo album Son Of Glen – set for release on the 27th June 2025. The record is a companion piece of sorts to his acclaimed memoir ‘Who’s The Boy With The Lovely Hair’, that was released in October 2024, and explores many of the themes and the subjects that the book touches upon.

To coincide with this announcement, you can now hear the stunning 10-minute long title track here:

A specially commissioned video for Son Of Glen, will be premiered on the 2nd May. Look out for more information on that soon.

Jakko comments: “A romantic fantasy narrative based on what I discovered about my real father after decades of fruitless searching for him.

Glen Tripp was a US airman based in the UK who fell for a dark-haired Irish singer. And here I was many, many years later repeating what he had done by falling for another. What if he had been watching me and guiding me from ‘afar’?”

Jakko’s remarkable songcraft is evident on ‘Son Of Glen’, as his elegiac lyric muses on our fixation with nostalgia and the human condition, and yet where great songwriting, pathos and poetry would be enough to satiate most listeners, let us not forget that Jakko is (somewhat enviably) also a phenomenal guitarist, exceptional singer and multi-instrumentalist, whose precision production and skill for crafting glorious spatial soundscapes takes his arsenal of talents and skills, to a place where it’s more than justified to say, there is no one else quite like Jakko, doing everything that he does, with the proficiency he does it.

The final pieces are slowly unveiling: Italian metal band Benthos are releasing their third single “As A Cordyceps” while revealing details for their upcoming sophomore album From Nothing, which will be released April 11th, 2025, via InsideOutMusic.

From Nothing offers a profound reflection on the meaning of life while exploring positive and negative imprints left by mankind, and how they have shaped entire societies in various aspects – artistic, cultural, and social.

The band shares about the album:

“We’ve poured our hearts and souls into From Nothing, and we’re beyond thrilled for you to hear it and connect with it in your own way. Creating this album encouraged us to experiment with new sounds and take risks that pushed our creativity to personal new heights. It’s been a wild ride, and now we’re finally ready to share it with you.”

‘As A Cordyceps’ follows on prior released singles ‘Pure’, andFossil’ which mark the first pieces of the upcoming record. The third single shows spaces where boundaries between humanity and nature blur in a symphony of wrath. Musically exploding with intensity and chaos while captivating all the same, ‘As A Cordyceps’ reinforces what listeners can expect to hear in the new album and showcases that From Nothing will present a journey worth listening to.

InsideOutMusic is proud to announce the signing of Italian instrumental, prog-metal fusionists Asymmetric Universe to a new worldwide deal. The band, formed by brothers Federico Vese & Nicolò Vese, are also pleased to launch a brand new track titled ‘Don’t Go Too Early’, and you can watch the video for that here:

The band comment:

We are so excited to join such a big family as InsideOutMusic! Being part of a team with legendary artists and bands that we’ve been listening to since we started studying music, is a dream come true!

Our new single, “Don’t Go Too Early”, is a mixture of fusion-jazz, aggressive progressive metal, wind quartet arrangements and an avant-garde string quartet orchestration, that brings a unique colour to complex yet catchy music. We can’t wait to share with you all the music we are already working on!”

Freddy Palmer, InsideOutMusic, adds: “Asymmetric Universe are a perfect example of the kind of exciting, instrumental guitar music making waves right now, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to add them to the label’s roster, and be a part of their bright future.”

The band are currently confirmed to support Plini & Haken in Milan, Italy on the 5th July, as well as playing Arctangent Festival in the UK on the 16th August alongside Meshuggah, Animals As Leaders & many more.

Formed in 2018, with the goal of pushing the limit of modern prog and fusing disparate genres, they combine metal with jazz & ambient music, alongside chamber orchestration. In 2023, the band released their second EP ‘The Sun Would Disappear As I Imagined All The Stars’, which was mixed by Forrester Savell and mastered by Ermin Hamidovic. They also embarked on their first European tour as support to Australian progressive metallers Ne Obliviscaris, as well as opening for Caligula’s Horse in Italy.

Both brothers are mostly self-taught musicians, who have been heavily involved in composition and orchestration, as well as music production.

Federico has composed music for as wide ranging places as Radio Montecarlo (one of the biggest Italian radio stations), as well as one of the largest Italian amusement park Mirabilandia. He is a metal/rock producer and this background influences his work as a composer in the video game industry. He is also a professional music and guitar teacher with online students from different parts of the world.

Nicolò has composed pieces for various orchestral organisations (two pieces were performed in the latest symphonic season of Orchestra Sinfonica of Sanremo and one performed at Rome Jazz Festival in 2021 with a big band), worked as a composer in many Musicals and he is currently working in the video game soundtrack industry (also as a sound designer), ranging from indie games to bigger productions. He also professionally teaches composition, orchestration and adaptive music techniques for video games.

Anglo-Finnish progressive metallers Wheel are pleased to announce the release of their much-anticipated third studio album Charismatic Leaders on the 3rd May 2024 (InsideOutMusic). The album was meticulously crafted to meet Wheel’s ever-heightening benchmarks and recording with engineers/co-producers Daniel Bergstrand and Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah) stretched from August to December 2023. The end result, mixed by Forrester Savell, has consolidated all the gains of what came before: singer/guitarist James Lascelles, lead guitarist Jussi Turunen and drummer Santeri Saksala’s third album represents their heaviest and most conscious music to date.

To mark the announcement, the band have launched the first single taken from the album, and you can watch the video for ‘Empire’ here:

AA

Vocalist & guitarist James Lascelles comments of the track: “This is probably the most metal song I have ever written – it is intense as all hell when it kicks in and it keeps finding new ways to punch you in the face all the way to the end! Santeri did an incredible job with the drum track on this one and playing it live is really going to take some work in the rehearsal room..

Lyrically, it is about media empires and the effect they have on wider society – all of us are influenced to some degree, even if we would rather not admit it. Issues that require nuance are presented as binaries and opposing views are made into caricatures – a target for us to rage at that far too often, doesn’t even exist. This is not a new phenomenon by any means but it is one that seems to have been catalysed by the modern landscape of media, the internet and populist politics. As you might be able to tell from the mood of the song, this pisses me off immensely and it was cathartic to vent about it.”

The band will be celebrating the release of their new album with their first ever shows in Australia (supporting label-mates Caligula’s Horse) as well as their first ever North American headline shows.
