Minsk, Belarus-based alternative metal act Mission Jupiter have recently issued Aftermath, their third album but first with powerhouse new singer Kate Varsak, whose voice is suited perfectly to a set of epic, drama-packed songs that should see the group achieve lift-off far beyond their home territory.

Describing the song’s meaning, the group explain that “it asks if we can be less selfish. Most of us tend not to look beyond our own doorstep….can we be better?”

  

Aftermath contains ten superbly produced songs in all. Fans of alternative and hard rock, progressive rock, metal and even Eurovision-esque crossover rock (on ‘Jak Spyniajecca Bol’, recorded in the group’s mother tongue and translated as ‘How The Pain Stops’) will be wowed by Mission Jupiter’s new songs, which combine sounds, moods and melodies wrapped around a stunning voice to leave listeners breathless.

Based in Minsk, Belarus, two previous albums by alternative metal act Mission Jupiter have hinted at their potential to be one of the few bands from that territory to achieve lift-off worldwide. Having recruited powerhouse singer Kate Varsak prior to writing and recording their upcoming third album, Aftermath, the result is a set of dramatic, epic songs with modern production values that should see them soar.

‘Bittersweet (Love Song)’ is out now as the final single to be teased from the new album. “It is about a woman who thinks about her perfect man and visualises their romantic relationship”, the band explain. “She hasn’t found him yet, but already has butterflies in her stomach. What an inspiring feeling!” The song boasts a shimmering melody, a poignant lyric and a rousing guitar solo.

Four previous singles have paved the way for the new album, with ’Sometimes It Hurts’, ‘Human Nature’, ‘Self-Destruction’ and ‘Crippled Country’ all having been issued in recent months. Prog magazine praised the first of these as “a soaring slice of uplifting and dramatic melodic prog” and that ‘Human Nature’ “displays the far-reaching appeal of a band who mix atmospheric prog, the darker undercurrents of Cocteau Twins and up-tempo alternative metal.” Metal Talk described the same song as being “swamped by wonderful moods and melodies, all wrapped around a stunning female voice.”

‘Crippled Country’ is out today as the latest single to be teased from the album, with the band explaining that the song is about “hoping for the best in dark times. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. In times of darkness, do you fight or flee?”

‘Self-Destruction’ has been released today as the latest single to be teased from the record. The heaviest and punchiest song by Mission Jupiter to date, the band explain that the story behind it is deeply personal and refers to a battle with mental disorder. “When you’re feeling down, it feels like the parasite living inside you has won, and you’re stuck in mental and physical discomfort forever. The only way to survive is to take a pill to ease the pain. We hope this song will resonate with our listeners on a profound level.”

’Self-Destruction’ follows the recent ‘Human Nature’, a song that Prog stated “displays the far-reaching appeal of a band who mix atmospheric prog, the darker undercurrents of Cocteau Twins and up-tempo alternative metal”, while Metal Talk described it as being “swamped by wonderful moods and melodies driven by guitarist Vlad Shvakel and drummer Eugene Zuyeu, all wrapped around a stunning female voice.”
