HIGH DESERT QUEEN celebrate the release of their sophomore full-length Palm Reader with a new video single of the title track. The Texas desert rockers are also streaming their hot new album in full now on all relevant outlets.

“We couldn’t be happier with how this album came together,” vocalist Ryan Garney writes. “Going to YellowDog, and deciding to record the whole thing live without a click track while creating new songs after getting off the road allowed this to be an album that’s helping mold what High Desert Queen is becoming. The title track came together in the studio when Phil started playing the drum beat as a joke. We were all laughing until Rusty ripped into the intro guitar riff, and within an hour we had the music completely written. What you hear on Palm Reader is what we created in real time, and it’s not like anything we’ve written before. We knew right away it needed to make it on the album, and it really showcases the spontaneous creativity behind the entire record.”

Montréal guitarist and producer Kee Avil returns with Spine, the follow up to her 2022 debut LP Crease, an intricately constructed, knife-edge take on avant-pop which garnered plaudits from outlets like The Wire, The Quietus, Mojo and Foxy Digitalis, picking up a Canadian Juno Award nomination and Bandcamp Album Of The Day and Albums Of The Year along the way.

Kee Avil’s music is both adventurous and intimate, intellectually challenging and emotionally resonant, and with her sophomore release Spine, she strips back her heavily textured compositions, opening up a much rawer sound. She calls it folk—and while traditionalists might scoff, this is urgent music that reflects the precarity of modern life, as well as the jarring mixture of electronic and real-world interactions that have become the fabric of our day-to-day experiences.

Avil says: “‘Gelatin’ sounds like rock and mud to me. It’s dense and heavy, viscous. It feels like it emanates from underground, underwater. It took a while for this song to come together – it started off with just voice and foley for a long time. When the beats were put in, it finally all glued together.”

Watch: ‘Kvitravn’ by Wardruna

Wardruna today share the title track, and pinnacle moment of their upcoming album, Kvitravn (meaning White Raven). A music video produced by Ragnarok Films reveals a powerful narrative centred around this sacred, elusive creature, and namesake of the album.

Dramatic scenery unfolds from a bird’s eye perspective, and enchanting images of this rare animal are captured, as we follow Wardruna founder Einar Selvik and vocalist Lindy Fay-Hella through the wilderness. As the video unfolds, a question arises, is this sighting only good fortune, or is it destiny?

About the song "Kvitravn", Wardruna founder Einar Selvik states, “I am very excited to finally share this song with you. “Kvitravn” is a song that explores traditions of animal-guides and the symbolism and legends of sacred white animals found in Nordic- and other cultures all over the world. These highly regarded ghostly creatures, whether a raven, snake, bear, moose, reindeer, elephant or lion – are in animist traditions seen as prophetic, divine messengers, and guardians representing renewal, purity and a bridge between worlds.”

Einar Selvik continues, “Being fully aware of how rare it is to come across white ravens, we knew from the start that this would be an ambitious and challenging task to pull off. However, fate seemed to be on our side in this and the “impossible” piece of the puzzle fell into place as if gifted from the divine.“

Stylistically varied, Geiger Counter ranges from raw, bewildering, venomous rock to gentle folk musings. liar, flower is a new iteration of Ruby Throat, which consisted of Garside and multi-instrumentalist Chris Whittingham. As Ruby Throat, the duo released four albums and an EP between 2007 and 2017, as well as their 2018 compilations Stone Dress and Liar, Flower.
